South Texas VA administers COVID-19 vaccines to hundreds of veterans living on San Antonioโs South Side
SAN ANTONIO โ The South Texas Veterans Health Care System administered Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to enrolled veterans at Texas A&M University-San Antonio on Saturday. The South Texas VA said they aspired to vaccinate 500 veterans living on the South Side of San Antonio who have difficulties reaching other vaccination sites offered throughout the area. San Antonio Metropolitan Health District reports more than 16,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in District 3, and 256 people have died of COVID-19 in that area. โWe have a high percentage of people that do not have health insurance in the southern sector of San Antonio,โ Viagran said. Texas A&M University-San Antonio students host 2nd annual Transgender Day of Remembrance
SAN ANTONIO โ Students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio are honoring the 37 transgender lives lost to violence this year. The second annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil was held Friday. On display were pictures of those who died as guest speakers spoke about what everyone can do to make a difference. Organizers said even one senseless transgender death is one too many. KSAT Community: Need a flu shot? University Health to host drive Saturday
SAN ANTONIO โ With flu season quickly approaching, University Health and Precinct 1 Commissioner Chico Rodriguez will host a flu shot drive on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, One University Way. Individual registrations must be submitted for each person receiving a flu shot. To protect the health and safety of everyone involved, protocols will be in place to ensure mask use and physical distancing. Appointments are required to get a flu shot at the drive-thru event. KSAT Community operates in partnership with University Health, Energy Transfer and Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union.
Texas A&M University-San Antonio program helps foster, adopted youth succeed through college
SAN ANTONIO โ Fernando Jacquez is one of the first students to graduate from Texas A&M University-San Antonioโs Fostering Assistance, Transitions & Education (FATE) program, which aims to help Bexar County foster and adopted youths earn a college degree. New program helps foster care youth aging out of system prepare for adult lifeThe program started in November 2019 and aims to increase college admission and graduation rates of foster and adopted youth. โWhen we age out of foster (care), you know, we come out of foster homes, itโs like, well, you know, goodbye,โ Jacquez said. And I said, โWell, arenโt you using the waiver?โโ said Norma Davila, foster care support coordinator at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Thanks to the program, Jacquez learned more about a waiver provided by the state that helps pay for education for youths who go through the foster care system.
