33 young women make college pick official

Students, parents, staff fill gym to celebrate

SAN ANTONIO – Wednesday's College Signing Day focused on the Class of 2017 at the Young Women's Leadership Academy.

Thirty-three young women made their college pick official with a public announcement. Students, parents and staff filled the gym to celebrate.

Every senior will be attending college in the fall. Some will be going to school in state while others are venturing further out.

Lea Morin is set to major in psychology at Amherst College in Massachusetts and says YWLA helped her get there.

"Like I said, YWLA has a huge commitment to us, and that's just such a strong network for us to rely on," Morin said. "I feel like YWLA has motivated me and kept me at this high rigor for myself."

Combined, the students will be attending a university on more than $5.5 million worth of scholarship offers.
