SAN ANTONIO – A South Side homeowner told San Antonio police he feared for his life, and that's why he shot another man outside his home, critically injuring him.
Police believe the wounded man and two others were stealing from a storage yard in the 3900 block of S. Presa Street at the time.
They said the homeowner, who lives next to his business, told them he had gone outside armed with a handgun after hearing a noise before 1:30 a.m. Friday. He said he found three men stealing tools and a compressor from the storage yard.
The homeowner told police two of them confronted him, so he fired his weapon. He said he feared for his life at that moment.
Police said all three suspects jumped into a pickup and headed toward downtown. They later found them at Downtown Baptist Hospital.
The man who was shot, though, was in critical condition and had to be transferred to University Hospital, police said. The other two were arrested.
Police said they found the stolen compressor in the 600 block of S. Alamo. They said it apparently had fallen out of the suspects' truck.
