4-month-old baby boy dies after authorities found him unresponsive on Sunday; suspect arrested

Ignacio Rodriguez arrested Sunday, charged with injury to child

SAN ANTONIO – A 4-month-old baby boy is dead and a man is in jail for hurting that infant, authorities said.

Police said the baby, who had been on life support, died on Tuesday afternoon.

Ignacio Rodriguez, 30, was arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with injury to a child.

Emergency crews were initially called out on Sunday morning to a home in the 100 block of Menlo Boulevard on the city's Southeast Side for an unresponsive infant. When they got there, they found the baby in cardiac arrest.

Police on the scene Sunday said the baby had no pulse and wasn't breathing, but emergency crews were able to initiate CPR and revive the infant.

The infant was taken to Santa Rosa Hospital in critical condition.

Initial medical reports showed the baby suffered several brain bleeds.

Police said it is now up to the District Attorney’s Office to determine what new charges Rodriguez will face, pending the medical examiner's determination on the baby’s cause of death.

Rodriguez is in the Bexar County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
