Highway 281 N. at Borgfeld Road open following fatal crash

BCSO: Driver was attempting to leave Trinity Oaks subdivision and was hit

SAN ANTONIOUpdate @ 11:40 a.m.:

Bexar County Sheriff's Office said both lanes of Highway 281 are open.

Original story:

1 person was killed and another is in the hospital following a major accident early Tuesday morning on Highway 281 northbound, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said.

The accident occurred just before 6 a.m. on Highway 281 North near E. Borgfeld Drive in far North San Antonio.

James Keith, spokesman for the Baxar County Sheriff's Office, said the driver of a black pickup was attempting to leave the Trinity Oaks subdivision and tried to make a left onto Southbound 281. A northbound silver pickup hit the first pickup, pushing the truck a few feet onto a grassy median.

The driver of the black truck had to be cut out of his vehicle. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he died, Keith said.

The other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and went by ambulance. Northbound 281 lanes are still shut down in the area and traffic is presently backed up.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
