SAN ANTONIO – The Alamo Colleges was awarded $654,536 in state funding to provide fast-track training to help train adult students for in-demand job openings. The award was given as part of the Accelerate TEXAS initiative and is one of four in Texas given to community colleges.
The grant helps 300 participants who haven't had success in traditional school programs to train in health care, computer support, office technology, logistics and building maintenance.

"The Alamo Colleges is proud to be recognized for its leading role in training the skilled workforce needed by employers in the South Texas area," said Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie. "This grant will complement our already successful efforts to provide basic skills and job certification training that improves the lives of many in our community and helps area employers meet their workforce needs."
To be eligible for the training, students must be seeking a high school credential or testing below an 11th-grade level in reading, writing or math. They must also be eligible to work in the United States.
