Blue Bell recalls small ice cream cups over possible contamination risk

Blue Bell Ice Cream is recalling three 3 oz. food service ice cream cups--chocolate, strawberry and vanilla with tab lids because of a possible contamination risk. 

These cups, however, are not sold through retail outlets like convenience stores or supermarket, according to the company

The company says the ice cream has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious infections in children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. 

On March 22, the Kansas Department of Health & Environment reported one positive test for the contamination on a chocolate institutional/food service cup recovered from a hospital in Kansas. This cup was produced in the Broken Arrow, Okla., plant on April 15, 2014. 

According to Blue Bell, the following ice cream cups were distributed were distributed in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming through food service accounts: 

Ice Cream Cup Chocolate (3 FL OZ) No UPC - SKU #453
Ice Cream Cup Strawberry (3 FL OZ) No UPC - SKU #452
Ice Cream Cup Vanilla (3 FL OZ) No UPC – SKU #451

No other illnesses have been reported to date. 

No other Blue Bell products are affected.
