Man arrested after body found in barrel in south Bexar County

Derrick Rodriguez, 20, charged with murder

SAN ANTONIO – A 20-year-old man is behind bars after deputies found a body inside a barrel Friday night in the 21300 block of Trumbo Road, south of Loop 1604.

Authorities charged Derrick Rodriguez with murder after a brief standoff. Investigators said he is not being cooperative.

Deputies received a tip of a possible homicide about 10 p.m. Friday, which led them to a home on Trumbo. When they arrived, they tried to Lure Rodriguez out of the residence, but he refused to come out.

Deputies forced their way in and arrested Rodriguez. They also found a loaded rifle in the room.

A spokesperson with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said investigators also noticed blood, so they continued to search the property. That’s when they found a body stuffed inside a barrel.

At this time, the motive behind the killing is still unclear. Authorities said Rodriguez has a criminal past and are still investigating.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed.
