NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Thirteen people who belonged to the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels’ congregation were killed after a bus crash Wednesday afternoon. The church is asking the community for its prayers.
Family and friends gathered at the church throughout Wednesday evening to grieve together.
As the news of the crash circulated, the faithful found comfort in their sanctuary and mourned.

“Our church family is doing what church families do. They’re coming together. They’re crying together. They’re praying together. And there’s anxiousness as to who was on the bus and what their condition is,” said Senior Pastor Brad McLean, with the First Baptist Church.
Nancy Lacey said one of her best friends may have been on the bus.
"I tried calling one friend and I got her voicemail, so I don't know yet,” Lacey said.
Fourteen people were on the bus. They were returning from a three-day church retreat when they were hit head-on by a pickup truck.
“We know this group of senior adults they were believers in Christ. They trusted him for the forgiveness of their sins and for the internal care of their soul,” McLean said.
McLean said the community and churches all around the state have called to offer their condolences, many even providing pastors to help those who are grieving.
The church canceled activities taking place on Wednesday night. Officials with the church are trying to determine who exactly was aboard the bus.
On Thursday, the church will have counselors available for anyone who may need emotional support.
