SAN ANTONIO – The city has shut down an embattled East Side recycling center.
Months ago, KSAT 12 News reported that several neighbors complained about the dust and trash coming from the property. The plant had also been cited for illegally recycling metal.

In September, the city and the property owner signed a compliance agreement, giving the owner an opportunity to trim the weeds, control trash and pave the parking lot.
“There continues to be trash and debris on the lot, even going onto the neighbors' lot. As far as the parking lot goes, we did give him 60 days to pave the parking lot, and he was supposed to pull a permit to do that. What he did is he threw some shavings down, some asphalt shavings, without getting a permit,” said Rod Sanchez, director of city development services.
That’s why the city claimed it pulled Ascent’s certificate of occupancy. KSAT 12 contacted Ascent Recycling on Wednesday. A spokesperson said they would release a statement Thursday.
