SAN ANTONIO – Community leaders made a push Friday for the passage of a proposition that would help victims of domestic violence and first responders.
The leaders held a news conference to explain the importance of Proposition 5, which will appear in the May 6 election ballot.
The proposition would provide $1 million for the construction of an activity center and gym for women and children who are staying at the Battered Women and Children's Shelter.
"That is the reality of domestic violence. The majority are children. So it is only fitting that while they are there, they'll be treated in the best way possible," said Marta Pelaez, president and CEO of Family Violence Prevention Services.
The proposition would also earmark $34 million for facilities for first responders and fire and police facilities.
