CRYSTAL CITY, Texas – Crystal City Mayor Ricardo Lopez posted bail and was released from the Zavala County Jail Wednesday afternoon after his arrest at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
Lopez addressed the media on Wednesday after his release, saying he had no plans to attend Wednesday night's meeting.
"I will not step in another council meeting. (I) don't care who the mayor is, don't care if I'm the mayor. I'm not going to another council meeting because I don't want to be put in jail again," Lopez said.
Lopez stopped short of announcing a resignation, despite being asked about it numerous times.
His arrest Tuesday night halted the progress of the council's meeting and left it without enough members to continue.
With Lopez saying he will not be in attendance Wednesday night, the council may not be able to meet at all.
Lopez was arrested after allegedly pushing a woman during Tuesday's meeting.
Lopez was charged with hindering proceedings by disorderly conduct; resisting arrest, search and transport; and possession of a prohibited controlled substance in a penal facility.
He had a Vicodin pill in his possession when arrested.
Lopez said he has a prescription for the medication. However, the Zavala County Sheriff said that because the pill was not it a proper container, it's against the law.
