Defense: Tiffany James in a bad relationship

Woman accused of killing boyfriend

SAN ANTONIO – From her high school teachers to a childhood friend, witnesses described Tiffany James, 20, as a gentle person in a bad relationship.

James is on trial for murder, accused of stabbing her boyfriend, Antwan Wolford, 18, to death during a violent argument on Nov. 20, 2009.

She was 17 at the time.

Wolford, who was the father of James' son, was 18.

James' friend since childhood, Whitney Davis, testified about the couple's stormy relationship.

"Some days it was good. Some days it was bad," she testified."But when they fought, it was bad."

Davis said she recalled at least two violent physical arguments between the couple prior to the fatal stabbing.

Rebecca Santos, James' high school history teacher and class sponsor, said James was a reliable, quiet and motivated student.

"She was very reserved and never got into trouble. She was never even late for class," Santos recalled.

If she if convicted of murder, James is facing a possible life sentence.

She has insisted that this was not murder but rather a case of self-defense.

Testimony will continue on Wednesday in Judge Juanita Vasquez-Gardner's 399th District Court.
