Fugitive in Atascosa County shooting surrenders

Robert Tovar, 25, accused of shooting girlfriend

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Robert Tovar, 25, accused of shooting his girlfriend in Atascosa County and setting her car on fire, has turned himself in at the Bexar County jail.

Jail records show that Tovar officially was under arrest as of about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. He is being held on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a news release from the U. S. Marshal’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Tovar went on the run after shooting his girlfriend in Atascosa County last Sunday and setting her car on fire. The girlfriend survived the shooting.

The release said they had received word Wednesday that he had been sighted on San Antonio’s South Side.

In an email Wednesday night, Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward announced that Tovar had turned himself in. Tovar will be returned to Atascosa County to face charges there.
