Hundreds attend Flotilla festival

Organizers hope to make festival an official Fiesta event

SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds of people lined the banks of the Mission Reach on Saturday for the first-ever flotilla parade.

Participants competed for prizes for best-decorated kayaks and canoes.

The San Antonio River Foundation, in partnership with the San Antonio River Authority, hope the event will help them reach future goals.

"One of them is to have people come down and use the Mission Reach and kayak and walk and run. And then the other goal is we want to eventually make this an official fiesta event," SA River Foundation Executive Director Estela Avery said.

After the parade, there was live music, food vendors and activities at the Mission County Park Pavilions.

A SARA staff member came up with the idea for the flotilla parade.
