Juvenile in custody after brief escape in Atascosa County

Dylan Cantu, 17, climbed razor wire fence at Juvenile Justice Center

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas – A juvenile who tried to make a run from the Atascosa County Juvenile Justice Center is back in custody.

Police said Dylan Cantu, 17, climbed a fence lined with razor wire and led police on a manhunt Friday. Officers from a variety of agencies joined in the search, including the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety.

Cantu was found around 3 p.m. after a citizen spotted the teen in a backyard not far from the jail.

"He seemed to be very arrogant. I didn't hear what he was saying, something about it not being hard to escape, but he's in custody now. He will go to the Atascosa County Jail for the offense he committed as an adult," Jourdanton Police Chief Eric Kaiser said.

Cantu has been charged with escape, which is a felony. He was originally being held on a burglary charge out of Wilson County.
