Investigators said the 36-year-old man was walking across the parking lot when he was shot.
According to deputies, an employee in his 20s, was inside the range working on a hunting rifle when it went off. A bullet went through the wall off a small range house and hit the victim, deputies said.
The man was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died.
Video from Sky 2 showed investigators had blocked off the parking lot where they were looking at a rifle case and a pair of boots near a building.
Homicide will investigate to determine if the shooting was due to a malfunction or human error.
