Man arrested after leaving driver's license at scene of crime

Juan Cuellar, 36, accused of stealing necklace worth $3,000

SAN ANTONIO – A man made things especially easy for San Antonio police detectives investigating a jewelry theft case because he left his driver's license at the scene of the crime.

Police were called July 2 to the Cash America pawn shop to investigate the theft of a necklace with a diamond pendant worth about $3,000.

An arrest warrant affidavit said a worker told them that a man walked in and asked to see the necklace, then left with the jewelry after distracting the clerk.

The affidavit said the manager asked the man for his driver's license when he asked to see the jewelry, and he left it behind when he ran off.

Investigators used the license and surveillance video from the business to identify Juan Cuellar, 36, as their suspect, the affidavit said.

Cuellar was arrested Tuesday on a charge of theft.
