Man accused of stealing, returning items for credit at Home Depot

Suspect accused of returning $11k worth of merchandise

SAN ANTONIO – Marquis Foster, 27, is accused of running a scheme involving at least half a dozen Home Depot stores that involved stealing then returning property to the businesses.

In all, San Antonio police believe Foster was able to return more than $11,000 worth of merchandise that he had not purchased and obtain store credit for that returned property.

An arrest warrant affidavit said that Home Depot’s investigators showed police surveillance video showing a man entering the stores empty-handed, before taking items off the shelves and placing them into plastic Home Depot bags.

Without paying for any of the property the man then walks to the return counter and exchanges the items for store credit in the form of gift cards, the affidavit said.

Police identified the man as Foster. They believe he sold the gift cards online for cash.

The affidavit said that police arrested Foster March 30 in connection with other thefts involving Home Depot. He was arrested again Monday on a separate theft charge.

Police said, initially, they believed the store credit he received totaled around $3,300, but upon further investigation realized it was closer to $11,000, the affidavit said.
