SAN ANTONIO – Less than one week after 28 year-old Silvester Reyes was murdered, police arrested a suspected gunman.
Jeremy Gutierrez, 24, was arrested Monday evening for the May 5 killing in the 100 block of Holly Street.
Police said there were bullet holes in both side of the truck Reyes was driving at the time, leading investigators to believe there were at least two shooters.
"I just want them to come forward. At least give justice to my two little boys. That's all I want," said Margarita Salas, Reyes' common-law wife.
Salas said even after Guitierrez's arrest, she still had questions about what had happened.
"I've never heard of him. Never seen him. Nothing," she said.
Salas also said she didn't know why Reyes was on Holly Street that night and didn't know he was dead until the next morning. Police came to their home to ask about the pickup Reyes was in, but she said the officers wouldn't elaborate on why they were there.
That night, she called everyone she could think of, looking for her common-law husband. Then the next morning, she searched for him herself.
"I got in my car with my two boys and I went everywhere on the west side. I went through Marbach. I went over here. I went through Pleasanton, and I couldn't find him," Salas said.
Reyes left behind two young boys.
"He was a loving father and an honorable man," Salas said. "I know my little boy, my oldest, he had a breakdown asking where his daddy is. What am I supposed to tell him?"
Police said Gutierrez was not cooperative after his arrest. They did not know his relationship to Reyes or a motive for the murder.
