Man claims self-defense in gas station shooting, police say

Shooting occurred in gas station parking lot

SAN ANTONIO – A man is claiming self-defense after an argument ended in gunfire at a Valero gas station.

The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. at the Valero near Interstate 35 and Starlight Terrace.

Police said the driver of a truck was backing up when he got too close to a family.

The driver of the truck and the man exchanged words and police said the driver of the truck warned the man he had a gun.

The driver of the truck then shot the man once in the neck.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center where he is listed in unknown condition.

Police said the driver never got out of his truck but told them he felt threatened and that is why he shot the man. Officers at the scene said they have recovered one weapon.

Police said it is too early in the investigation to know if charges will be filed.
