Police said a person is dead after a Friday afternoon shooting on the far West Side at Culebra and Selene inside Loop 1604.
Authorities are still looking for the shooter. Resident told KSAT 12 News the shots rang out too close for comfort.
“Rush hour traffic, there’s kids everywhere, and now this is here,” resident Brandon Bleeker said.
The shooting happened catty-corner from a school and next to a church. Police said witnesses described a man running across a nearby field from someone in a truck.
Witnesses told police the victim ran onto Culebra and collapsed in the street.
Police said the victim was shot once in his left shoulder. The bullet traveled to his chest.
“I got here right after the shots happened. I talked to a couple of people, and it’s kind of crazy that this happened in this neighborhood,” Bleeker said. “It’s a good neighborhood. Not a lot of things happen over here.”
Bleeker said he’s in the area every day and shootings aren’t something the community is used to seeing. He and others watched as police combed through the field, looking for answers.
Investigators were assessing the area until nightfall. Police are looking for a person of interest in a blue Ford Ranger. Anyone with information is asked to call SAPD's Homicide Unit at 210-207-7635 or Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867.
