Man in prison for murder charged in connection with cold case murder

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas – A man serving 25 years in prison for a 2002 murder was charged in connection with another murder that also occurred in 2002, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.

Matthew Engelbrecht was indicted by a Guadalupe County grand jury on Oct. 6 in the cold case murder of Roxanne McGreehan.

McGreehan was reported missing Oct. 22, 2002, and officials said she was murdered around that time along Cibolo Creek.

After hundreds of hours of investigation, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office's cold case unit presented a case to the Guadalupe County Attorney’s Office and a grand jury returned an indictment for capital murder against Englebrecht.

Englebrecht is currently serving a 25-year sentence for a murder he was convicted of in 2006. That murder also occurred in 2002.

Officials with the Sheriff's Office are asking anyone with information on unsolved crimes in Guadalupe County to call 830-379-1224 or Guadalupe County Crimes Stoppers tip line at 1-877-403-8477.
