Mission San Juan

SAN ANTONIO –

FUN FACTS:

  • Mission San Juan Capistrano is one of three missions that was moved from East Texas in 1731.
  • Was first moved to what is present day Nacogdoches County, but later moved to San Antonio River Valley because it failed to thrive.
  • The current church had to undergo a stabilization project.
  • A larger church was to be built, but was never completed. The unfinished building still stands in ruins today.
  • In 2012, water was restored to the San Juan Acequia, and in 2013 the first crop was sown on the original farm fields.
