SAN ANTONIO – More than 500 San Antonio-area parents, grandparents and members of the community were honored Friday for completing an eight-month-long Parent Academy program in the North East Independent School District.
After dedicating hours of their time, the graduates were finally able to cross the stage at Roosevelt High School.
Their journeys started in September. Since then, they've learned parenting and literacy skills, along with how to better manage finances.
Some of them earned a GED in the process.
"It's amazing these parents are so grateful for everything that we offer for them,” said Araceli Dominguez, an NEISD family engagement liaison. “The knowledge that they acquire is amazing. They are so grateful because they’re able to take that next step for their child."
Organizers said this was an effort to bridge the divide between parents and students, learning at school and at home.
