NO, Yolanda Saldivar did not die in prison

Hoax site tricks online readers into believing killer died

SAN ANTONIO – For the second time in nine months, a story claiming to break the news the woman who killed Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla Perez has died. Once again, it was a hoax.

A very convincing article in United Media Publishing said Monday, "Yolanda Saldivar was found dead in her cell by deputies during a routine walk through of the Mountain View unit in Gatesville, Texas. Attempts to resuscitate Saldivar proved futile as she appeared to have been dead for several hours before discovery. Cause of death will be announced pending autopsy and toxicology reports."

That would be news to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

"She is alive," said spokesman Jason Clark.

Saldivar is serving a life sentence at the state's Mountain View Facility in Gatesville for the 1995 murder of Selena. Saldivar will not be considered for parole until 2025.

In Dec. 2014, Nationalreport.net (a hoax site) reported Saldivar could be released from prison as early as Jan. 1, 2015 because of failing health and "recent legal modifications."

Perhaps the author's information in the United Media Publishing story might have been a giveaway that the story wasn't based on fact?

It said, "Priscilla Mason is a graduate of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She's received many accolades for her writing, specifically winning the Eugine Young Writers Fair, and appearing in the Women Of Literature North West edition 2013. Mason has had an interest in both writing, and the unusual, taking particular interest in Urban Legends, abnormal psychology, mind control projects, such as MKULTRA, and other subjects that some may call "fringe conspiracy theories."
