SAN ANTONIO – A man is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in north downtown San Antonio.
The shooting happened near the downtown Baptist Medical Center’s entrance in the 100 block of Dallas Street.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said two mental health unit police officers were inside the hospital for observation of an individual Wednesday evening. As they exited the hospital, they heard a woman screaming for help.
The officers witnessed a 25-year-old man stabbing the woman, McManus said. The officers intervened and the man came at them.
McManus said one of the officers fired his service weapon once and hit the man in the torso.
The man is being treated at the hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
The woman sustained minor non-life-threatening injuries. McManus said the weapon used to stab her was a pencil.
The officer who shot the man is OK. He is a nine-year veteran.
