Police investigate decomposed body found on West Side

Body found Monday off South Brazos and El Paso streets

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police Department investigators are trying to piece together how and why a body ended up in a grassy area off South Brazos and El Paso streets.

The discovery happened Monday afternoon.

SAPD spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar said the body is so decomposed that the sex has not been determined.

Crime scene investigators could not tell how long the body had been there, but neighbors in the area reported smelling a foul odor for weeks.

Salazar also said it appeared animals had gotten to the body and scattered it in the vicinity.

The homicide unit will now take over the investigation even though Salazar said it is too early to say whether or not the body is related to any criminal activity.
