A North Side apartment complex became the scene of a murder-suicide Friday evening. Police found the bodies of a man and a woman inside an apartment in the 8600 block of Jones Maltsberger Road.
The small front parking lot of the Nest apartment complex was boxed in with crime tape. Inside that tape was the San Antonio Police Department Crime Scene Unit and at least a dozen police officers. Their focus was an apartment in the top left corner of the complex.
Neighbor Mary Torres said her community is usually safe and quiet.
“There’s never any loud music or big parties or anything like that going on over here,” she said.
Around 5 p.m., another neighbor heard gunshots and called police. Officers found a man and a woman in their late 20s or early 30s, who had both been shot in the head.
“I got home and saw all this going on. Then my niece called me and let me know something happened, and that's when I came out here to see,” Torres said.
Torres said she saw San Antonio police Chief William McManus arrive at the scene, speak with investigators and assess the scene himself.
McManus confirmed to KSAT 12 News that it had been a murder-suicide, saying the man and woman had been a couple.
Neighbors, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the couple argued a lot. Torres said she didn’t know the couple personally, but said it’s a sad day for the entire community.
Police have not released the identities of the man or woman yet. They’re also still investigating to find out who pulled the trigger and why.
