SAN ANTONIO – About 30 people rallied Tuesday outside the San Antonio office of U.S. Rep. Will Hurd demanding a town hall meeting.
Members of Texas 23 Indivisible, Move San Antonio, Service Employees International Union, Mi Familia Vota and Texas Organizing Project, and constituents of the 23rd Congressional District hoped to meet with Hurd, who is on recess this week along with other members of Congress.

Hurd, a Republican, was not at his office, which disappointed the crowd, which had hoped to talk with Hurd about the Trump administration's recent actions that threaten immigrants and refugees.
"It is Congressman Hurd's job to listen to his constituents and hold in-person town hall meetings in San Antonio so we know where he stands," said Xochitl Rodriguez, of Texas 23 Indivisible. "Anything less would not qualify as gold standard for constituent service."
Hurd's chief of staff, Stoney Burke, talked with the group about their concerns.
"Over the past two years, we've done over 400 public events across the district," he said. "You know, our district covers from San Antonio to El Paso, so, you know, a lot of rural interests, a lot of veteran-related interests. So we're constantly out in the community."
The rally is part of a nationwide resistance recess movement that calls on lawmakers to show voters their plans for health care, immigration reform and other policies that affect families around the country.
