SAN ANTONIO – Pope Francis on Monday named Msgr. Michael Joseph Boulette as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller made the announcement and introduced Boulette on Monday at a news conference.
Boulette, originally from New York, is very familiar with the San Antonio area.
He moved to Fredericksburg when he was 9 years old and graduated from St. John Seminary High School in San Antonio. Boulette received a bachelor's degree in psychology from St. Mary's University in 1971 and a master's degree in psychology from Trinity University in 1972.
Boulette served as a parochial vicar at St. James Church in Gonzales from 1976 to 1980. He also served as parochial vicar at St. Ann Church in San Antonio from 1980 to 1983.
"I love San Antonio. I love the people of San Antonio. I love the archbishop," Boulette said. "I've been involved with formation. I've helped bring people to the priesthood, and I'm also working with priests ordained less than five years."
Garcia-Siller said he looks forward to working with Boulette to help with many activities in the archdiocese.
A community introduction Mass for Boulette will be held Friday at Assumption Seminary at 2600 West Woodlawn Ave.
The bishop-elect will be ordained March 20.
