Records: Gunman who shot boy, woman before standoff was on probation for assault, family violence

Man identified as Shavonn Price, 40; Price had extensive criminal history

SAN ANTONIO – The gunman who the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said shot a 13-year-old boy multiple times in the chest and a woman, 36, once in the torso has now been identified.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the identity of the man to KSAT.com as Shavonn Price, 40. Online records show Price was currently on probation for a previous assault charge.

On Thursday around 3:30 p.m., more than 15 BCSO patrols units stormed a far West Side neighborhood where Price was barricading himself in a home in the 2900 block of Ash Field Drive.

Sheriff Javier Salazar said the standoff with Price ended more than five hours later, after the department's tactical robot found him in a bedroom, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Online records show Price was sentenced to four years of supervised probation in July 2018 for a second offense of assault family violence.

Records also show Price was arrested in May 2017 for assault bodily injury and then, six months later, for interfering with an emergency call and the second assault incident both on the same day.

According to county clerk records, Price faced three family violence-related charges from two separate incidents.

Court records show two of the charges were dismissed in July after he plead no contest to family violence - 2nd offense.

Online records show Price had a decades-old criminal history in Texas, including felony and misdemeanor assault convictions in other cities such as Lubbock, Midland and Waco.

A BCSO spokesperson said that, as of Friday afternoon, the boy was still in critical condition and the woman was in stable condition. Both are at University Hospital.
