SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is accepting gifts for the daughter of injured SAPD Officer Julio Cavazos as she celebrates her sixth birthday.

Cavazos is one of two officers who was shot Thursday afternoon while investigating car burglaries downtown.

Cavazos and Officer Miguel Moreno approached two suspects in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street Thursday when one of the suspects, identified Friday as Andrew Bice, opened fire on the officers, killing Moreno and shooting Cavazos in the chin.

Cavazos' daughter turned 6 on Friday as her father recovered at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

The community can drop off gifts for Cavazos' daughter at any police substation. Gifts will be accepted until Sunday.

An officer at the Central Substation said Cavazos' daughter wears a size 6 in clothes.
