Sex assault victim: Gary Baker told me he was a wizard

Prosecutors said Baker abused girl when she was 7 years old

SAN ANTONIO – Now 19, a woman on Tuesday gave a San Antonio jury graphic and often bizarre accounts of sexual assaults that occurred when she was 7 and 8 years old.

The testimony came as the trial of Gary Baker began. He is facing aggravated sexual assault of a child charges.

The woman, who is the daughter of Baker's then-girlfriend, described multiple instances of sexual assaults by Baker in 2003 while he lived with her family. He seldom worked. She said he would babysit for her and her sister while their mother worked as a motel maid.

"It went on as long as we lived in San Antonio," the victim testified as she described how Baker forced her to perform sex acts.

She said she was 7 when the abuse began and that Baker took advantage of her age by saying they were playing games.

"It started off like some weird witchcraft thing," she testified. "He would say he was, like, this wizard thing and in order for me to become a wizard too, I had to do those things."

She said that Baker told her not to tell anyone what they were doing and warned that if she did, they would both be set on fire by other wizards.

"He would say that what we did was only something that me and him and other wizards would understand," she said.

If Baker is convicted, he is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Testimony will resume on Wednesday in Judge Sid Harle's 226th District Court.
