Southtown business damaged in overnight fire

Laundry burned at Alsco warehouse

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department said a fire at a Southtown business started with a pile of laundry.

Firefighters said when they responded to the blaze at Alsco Inc., a linen supply service located in the 400 block of Roosevelt Avenue, around 2 a.m. Saturday, they discovered baskets of laundry on fire near the warehouse docks.

It took crews about an hour to battle the flames.

Arson investigators were called in to determine how the fire started. Hazmat was also called in due to the laundry chemicals inside the building.
