Air Force: Suspicious-looking package leads to evacuation of building at JBSA-Randolph

SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE at 4:55 p.m.:

Air Force officials said a suspicious-looking package at the personnel center building on Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph led to the evacuation notice Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said the building's mailroom was evacuated around 11:30 a.m. and, after Bio Environment investigated the package, the building was given the all-clear and personnel were allowed re-entry.

The incident remains under investigation.

UPDATE at 2:45 p.m.: 

Officials told KSAT.com the affected building has now reopened after an evacuation notice was issued around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

A tweet was sent out announcing Building 493 was being evacuated and for members to "stay away" until further notice.

Officials said the incident is not weather-related and they are working with JBSA-Randolph command staff to learn more about what prompted the evacuation.

An evacuation is underway at an Air Force personnel building in Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.

According to a tweet sent out around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, officials are asking for members to "stay away from the building for the time being."

The tweet says the evacuation is taking place at Building 493. Roads surrounding it are being closed and traffic is being diverted. No further information was given.
