Vote on Boerne development zoning put on hold

Vote tabled until April 25

BOERNE, Texas – The vote on a controversial green space in Boerne was supposed to take place Tuesday night, but it was put on hold after dozens of people voiced their opinions about the development.

The Boerne City Council was supposed to decide on giving a 27-acre area off Herff Road zoning for a mixed-use development, but a speaker presented a petition against it. The city secretary now needs time to validate that petition.

The City Council tabled the vote until its next meeting on April 25.

About 40 residents spoke at the meeting.

Some in attendance expressed how much the green space, bordered by Cibolo Creek, means to them. Others spoke about how excited they are for new construction.

"I think we had a lot of positive comments and supporting comments for our development," project broker Charles Riddle said. "I think it's clear that -- it is recognized how much thought and effort we've put into it."

"It is such a precious, valuable part of this community, and I'm going to stand against the zoning," Jeannette MacDougall said.

The planned $40 million project would bring housing, retail shops and restaurants.
