Trump family adopts stray dog from San Antonio

Rescued Beagle finds forever home with Eric, Lara Trump

SAN ANTONIO – A stray dog from San Antonio has found his forever home in New York City with President Donald Trump's family.

Ben the beagle came to Animal Care Services in April 2016, covered in severe mange.

Before he found his way to New York, Ben spent nearly a month at the Callahan Vet Hospital being treated for his injuries.

With any animal being moved out of state, there is a required two week quarantine. However, due to his injuries Ben remained in San Antonio longer than the required hold.

After being medically evaluated, a rescue group picked up Ben from ACS a few days later and took the pup to New York.

There, the group -- Rescue Dogs Rock NYC -- were able to connect the beagle to Trump’s son, Eric Trump, and his wife, Lara.

The couple fostered Ben and decided they wanted to keep him.

The Trumps adopted him last August and have been sharing his journey on social media.

“We've gotten quite a few pictures of him! He's happy and spoiled,” said Gerry Leah Zavala, ACS Rescue Foster supervisor. “And he's got the life we hope for all of our pets.”

Lara Trump has posted several photos with Charlie and Ben the rescue dog. The pair of canines are seen enjoying the beach in North Carolina and the snow in Washington D.C.

Eric Trump has also shared pictures on his social media accounts.

She also uses the hashtag #RescueDogBen and #SweetBen when sharing posts with the dog.

ACS takes in 30,000 animals each year and is in desperate need of foster families.

If you'd like to help out, you can call ACS at 210-207-4PET or click here for a foster application.
