SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon has turned down an offer to be the head coach of the University of Florida women’s basketball team, according to reports.
Swishappeal.com reported Florida’s offer was more than what Hammon is currently being paid with the Spurs, but was still in the lower tier of the average salary in the Southeastern Conference.

Hammon reportedly interviewed for the position last week, but ultimately decided to remain a Spurs assistant coach under Gregg Popovich.
The Vertical reported last week Hammon was wrestling with the decision because she was determined to remain on a path that would make her the NBA’s first female head coach.
Hammon joined the Spurs as an assistant coach in August 2014, becoming the the first full-time, salaried female coach in NBA history.
She coached the Spurs summer league team to a championship in July 2015.
