Spurs fall to Magic 103-98 in Jonathan Simmons' preseason return to SA

LaMarcus Aldridge scores 16 points in 25 minutes to lead team

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs lost 103-98 to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, in one of the last tune-ups before the team's season opener.

Forward LaMarcus Aldridge led the Spurs in scoring with 16 points in 25 minutes to continue his stellar preseason play.

New addition Rudy Gay added 13 points and had 7 rebounds and had four assists for the silver and black, who had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.

Former San Antonio Spur Jonathan Simmons had a double-double with 20 points and 10 assists for the visiting Magic, who played several projected starters late into the game.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich told the local media he was looking forward to seeing Simmons again prior to the game. 

“I can’t wait. He’s got a big heart and he’s come a long way,” Popovich said.

The Spurs will now go to Houston on Friday to face the Rockets in their final preseason game before their season opener on Oct. 18.
