The fungus among us: High mold count causing headaches, sneezing

SAN ANTONIO – You can't really see it, but many of us feel it -- the wheezing and sneezing associated with a very high mold count.

It seems that just about everywhere you look, people are struggling with headaches, carrying tissues and buying lozenges in bulk.

So what causes the high mold count? Humidity.

This month has been one of the rainiest Septembers on record, with over 14 inches of rain recorded at the airport so far.

A saturated ground and a little bit of sun makes the perfect recipe for mold spores to thrive -- and a worse case scenario for allergy sufferers.

Unfortunately, more rain is expected by the weekend, so don't expect the numbers to go down anytime soon. Happy sneezin'!
