Mold forces Harlandale ISD to relocate students

District officials believe mold related to air conditioners

SAN ANTONIO – Mold was discovered in various classrooms in eight Harlandale Independent School District schools, prompting officials to relocate students and staff.

The schools affected were McCollum High School; Leal Middle School; Harlandale Middle School; Kingsborough Middle School; Carroll Bell Elementary School; Vestal Elementary School; Fenley Center and Scheh Center, Harlandale ISD spokesman Andrew Fernandez said.

"As soon as we got the finding of what schools had mold inside, then we begin to relocate students and staff out of those classrooms," Fernandez said. "So, it's not the entire school, just certain classrooms in the schools."

District officials believe the mold is related to its air conditioning systems and have taken legal action against the company that installed the air conditioners, Fernandez said.
