SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word announced Thursday that Thomas Evans has been chosen as the 10th president of the university.
Evans has served as president of Carroll College in Helena, Montana, for the past five years, a news release said.

He also served 16 years at St. Edwards University in Austin, where he rose through the ranks in various roles, including associate vice president of professional education and global initiatives.
Evans holds both a Master of Arts in Asian studies and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Science in language arts from the School of Languages and Linguistics at Georgetown University.

Evans, who is married and has two sons, will be introduced to the public at a news conference June 13.
He replaced Lou Agnese, who was removed from office in August after he allegedly made racial remarks during a campus luncheon.
