Get this look: Texas State students deck out their dorm room and you can, too!

Credit: Sheila Ybarra

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State University mom Sheila Ybarra said it took seven people, $2,000 and 10 hours to pull off a Pinterest-worthy dorm room makeover and Ybarra said she wouldn't have it any other way.

"It's so important to make it feel like it is their own space," Ybarra said.

Ybarra recently moved her daughter Skylar Bantz into Sterry Hall, a nearly 50-year-old residence hall.

The makeover has alumni in disbelief that Bantz and her roommate Adeline Vela had the vision to transform their dorm room from "Scary Sterry" to a "beautiful home."

Well I never thought this would happen! All we wanted to do was make our daughters room comfy and feel like home!

Ybarra posted before and after photos to Facebook over the weekend and the images have gone viral.

Ybarra said she shopped at Bed Bath and Beyond, IKEA, Target and Amazon but noticed about a month before her daughter's move in date, "a lot of items had already been picked through in the stores."

Bantz and Vela's families met before moving in to draw up a plan and divide responsibilities.

"We decided the color theme and we would all communicate in a group text message and take pictures of items that we had seen," Ybarra said. "(Bantz's) roommate's mother was in charge of picking up the chairs, rug, bedspreads, customizing a pillow headboard and making the sheer custom curtains as well as the sheer drapes underneath the bunk beds. Skylar and I where in charge of picking out all of the furniture, the wallpaper design, accent pillows and other living items such as refrigerator, mini vacuum, television and coffee machine."

Ybarra said both families spent approximately $1,000 each and tried to preserve their identities in their sides of the room to avoid making it "too matchy-matchy"

The girls also rented lofted beds from a university-approved vendor and are storing some of the university-issued furniture at a friend's house until move out.

Some were skeptical of the decorations citing various perceived hazards and violations, but when it came to room checks, the girls were only asked to take down a ceiling light.
