Can you believe how quickly the school year is flying by? There are only two more months for many of you until summer break, but no one’s counting, right?

As we finish out a school year unlike any other, many of us have also learned that having and raising a child during the COVID-19 pandemic is, simply put, hard. Parenting during a pandemic is as satisfying of a job as it is difficult — from first-time fathers not being able to attend sonograms to more experienced moms and dads attempting to work while simultaneously taking care of a sick child at home.
These new challenges are shared by many, but still understood by few. That’s why KSAT anchor and reporter Courtney Friedman will host a livestreamed town hall at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, to help provide answers to KSAT viewers’ questions about pregnancy and infertility in the age of the coronavirus. Courtney, who recently announced her own pregnancy, will speak with a panel of four experts about COVID-19 during pregnancy, the vaccine, delivery protocols, breastfeeding, infertility and mental health.

Elsewhere, San Antonio-area school districts have made their choices regarding their mask mandates and their requirements for the rest of the school year. But a clear divide in one San Antonio suburb shows the difficulty in meeting the needs of all parents, teachers and students. The New Braunfels Independent School District and the Comal Independent School District, both landed on opposite sides of the face-covering debate after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement that the statewide mask mandate would end March 10.
In this week’s KSAT Kids’ spotlight, we highlight 16-year-old Trent Anderson, who is the owner of his own company called BeeSpace. Trent first started the business table-selling honey on the side of the road, but now, two years later, Trent has a pop-up tent space and says there are some days where he sells out of his local honey. Well done, Trent!
KSAT Meteorologist Kaiti Blake is also back this week with an Easter-themed science lab, “Peep Palooza”, a science lesson that will show how the Peeps marshmallow candy reacts to different liquids and a heat source. The lesson is both fun and yummy and will be up on the website later today.
And for those students still seeking additional schooling help, the San Antonio Public Library continues to offer resources to help with their lessons. We also have a list of places offering free Wi-Fi for students and their families.
