SAN ANTONIO – Family, friends and colleagues of the namesake of a new state-of-the-art healthcare center on Tuesday lent a helping hand -- literally -- for a mosaic mural that will be displayed in the building.
They donated their handprints for the Helping Hands mural that will be unveiled at the end of the year when the Dr. Robert L.M. Hilliard Center opens its doors on the city's East Side.
The mural will be commissioned by Reginald Adams, a Houston-based artist.
Adams said he hopes to gather 200 handprints for the mural.
"Once the clay is dried, we'll glaze it, add color to it and then that will be incorporated into a 16-foot by 10-foot mosaic mural that will be infield with glass and porcelain tile," he said.
The 25,000-square-foot center will offer primary care, women's and children's services and more.
The Hilliard Center is the first University Health System facility named in honor of a person since its founding hospital opened downtown as the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in 1917, and the Green's outpatient clinic was named for philanthropist Lady Brady in 1978.
