SAN ANTONIO – Obesity and diabetes are both big problems in San Antonio.
A Centers for Disease Control study found that 65.7% of adults in Bexar County are overweight or obese. A City of San Antonio report in 2019-2020 revealed more than 13% of adults in the county also had diabetes. Those statistics are why UT Health San Antonio is inviting the public to a special event focused on health.
Next Thursday, UT Health San Antonio will host the 2024 Bi-National Obesity and Metabolic Symposium.
Doctors want you to go, talk to them and learn about how to prevent and treat obesity and metabolic diseases.
“All those people could come and receive valuable information and understand why we are (promoting) collaborations with other countries to learn more about these diseases and hopefully find a cure,” said Carolina Solis-Herrera, chief of endocrinology at UT Health San Antonio.
People who attend the event will also receive free lunch.
The 2024 Bi-National Obesity and Metabolic Symposium is a free event open to the public from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 11. The address is 7703 Floyd Curl Drive.
