Turtle released after surgery to remove 4 feet of fishing line

Peach let go in ocean off South Carolina's coast

A sea turtle named Peach has been released into the ocean after receiving surgery to remove 4 feet of fishing line she swallowed, The Associated Press reported.

The South Carolina Aquarium said in a press release that Peach was let go Monday at Folly Beach into the Atlantic Ocean off South Carolina's coast, the AP reported. She was tagged with a transmitter to allow scientists to track her and other turtles like her as they move during the winter months.

Peach is a female Kemp's ridley sea turtle and weighs 55 pounds. She was found last summer in Charleston Harbor by the Department of Natural Resources, the AP reported.

Peach had fishing line wrapped around her neck and left front flipper, the AP reported. She had swallowed some of the line, which ran into her mouth and down into her intestines.
