KSAT Explains: What you need to know about the COVID-19 vaccines

Episode 19: The COVID-19 Vaccines

Whew. What a year it has been.

The pandemic has been raging for nine months now. But there is hope as frontline health care workers receive the first COVID-19 vaccines.

I will admit that I was one of the skeptics when it came to the vaccine. It’s one of the reasons why I suggested we do an episode explaining this topic. I also know that many of you have questions about the vaccine. Is it safe? How was it developed so quickly? When can I get the vaccine? Those are the same questions I had. Our goal with this episode is to inform you, so you can make your own decision based on factual information.

Everyone around the world has been working toward the same goal this year -- ending this pandemic. That’s just one of the reasons why the COVID-19 vaccine was developed with unprecedented speed.

It’s actually pretty awesome to see how everyone came together and worked tirelessly to make this historic discovery. After digging through the data, talking to doctors and scientists who have been involved in the development of the vaccine, I’m confident that corners weren’t cut.

I will admit that my brain is exploding with too much science after this episode, but I’m glad we took on this topic. (I’m definitely not smart enough to be a scientist).

I learned the process it takes to create something so complex and life changing, and in return, I’m now comfortable with the decision to get the vaccine once it becomes available to me.

I hope you’ll take the time to educate yourself and share with others, because this will probably be one of the biggest decisions we make in 2021.

Also, thank you for joining us this year on our new journey providing in-depth coverage on important topics in a weekly episode. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been rewarding.

We’ll see you next year. It can’t get any worse, right?
