SAN ANTONIO – A 34-year-old man accused in at least a dozen robberies on the city's South Side is now in police custody.
Police arrested Rudy Ramos, 34, at Pleasanton Road and Southcross Boulevard on Friday night after he tried to rob another business on McCauley Avenue.
Police believe he's the main suspect in the robbery of a Church's Fried Chicken in the 2000 block of Pleasanton Road earlier this week.
"We've recovered evidence that directly ties him to many robberies in that area," said Sgt. Jaime Trevino of the San Antonio Police Department's Robbery Task Force. "Until we finish the investigation, we won't know exactly how many, but we do believe that taking him off the streets is a big plus for us and for the people in the Southside."
Trevino said Ramos was targeting businesses off of Pleasanton Road around the Southcross area close to where he lives.
Some South Side business owners told KSAT 12 News that they were relieved to hear about his arrest.
"It really didn't effect us, but it is in close proximity to us," said Felix Lendin, of Tax Refund Service on Pleasanton Road. "So, we're glad the individual was apprehended and doesn't effect anybody else."
However, Lendin said even with Ramos off the streets, they are still watching out for their employees and their community.
"As employers we have to be better aware of what we do," Lendin said. "We install camera systems to ensure the safety of our employees, our customers. The last thing we want to do is bring them into an environment where they don't feel that way."
For now, Ramos faces one charge of aggravated robbery for the robbery on McCauley Avenue on Friday, but police believe he's responsible for at least a dozen other robberies in the last few weeks.
Trevino said more charges are pending.
